Charity of the Year – 2024

Bristol Junior Lawyers Division is proud to announce that it will be supporting Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS) as its Charity of the Year for 2024.

SARSAS is a charity that provides specialist support to adults, children and young people of all genders who have been affected by rape, sexual abuse or assault at any time in their lives. SARSAS listens, believes and supports people through their helpline, live chat, 1:1 support, group work, counselling and self-help guides. With such vast services, its support reaches Bath, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

SARSAS also lead projects and campaigns to raise awareness in lesser-known areas of sexual violence and challenge misconceptions about sexual violence and abuse. SARSAS is a driving force for all voices to be heard. Their vision is a world without sexual violence.

As part of its support for SARSAS, Bristol JLD will be organising a range of fundraising and awareness-building events, including fundraising at its Annual Summer Ball and Christmas Party, and is looking forward to working with SARSAS over the course of this year.

In 2023, Bristol JLD raised and donated a total of £7,000 for Bristol Children’s Help Society (also known as Barton Camp), a charity that provides residential and outdoor learning experiences for children who have had limited life opportunities due to personal circumstances.

Emma Greenhalgh, Trustee at Barton Camp said:

We extend our deepest gratitude to you for choosing Barton Camp as your charity of choice for 2023. Your commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of children is truly inspiring. We’ve cherished every moment of the events we’ve shared, from the delightful BBQ gatherings to the glamorous ball nights. Your dedication and enthusiasm have not only made these occasions memorable but have also contributed to a remarkable achievement. The total amount of £7,000 is truly incredible, and it will undoubtedly make a significant difference in our mission. With this support, we can provide enriching camp experiences to a multitude of children, creating lasting memories and fostering personal growth.
